Visually impaired students hope to score straight As in PT3 examination

Despite their disability, two visually impaired students are confident of scoring straight As in the Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) examination. Aidit Iskandar Samsir and Muhammad Sukrey Mohd Zin were among the four special needs (CBK) students who sat for the PT3 in Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar (MSAB) here.

PEOPLE with disabilities would have better mobility and job opportunities if they could receive a tax waiver or subsidy on a new vehicle. The suggestion was made by Ahmad Faresh Ahmad Zahid, 47, a person with disabilities who operates the country’s first disabled-friendly Perodua car showroom which opened in 2012 at Taman Wahyu, Batu Caves.

Inspired by need to help the disabled

Branden Lim, seven, has a condition which causes his muscle strength to progressively weaken which has already affected his hands. His parents created a prototype of a device which enables him to move his wrist to draw, write and paint. Lim’s team was awarded a US$5,000 (RM21,125) grant at #ThisAbility Makeathon 2017 organised by Unicef in collaboration with Petrosains.

Ramai majikan daripada sektor swasta mahupun kerajaan di negeri Johor sudah semakin cenderung mengambil pekerja dalam kalangan orang kurang upaya (OKU) berikutan golongan itu lebih komited dalam melaksanakan tugas mereka.

Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat Johor Asiah Md Ariff berkata perwatakan golongan itu yang lebih menghargai peluang pekerjaan yang diberikan majikan berbanding orang normal juga menjadi antara sebab mengapa mereka semakin diingini dalam pasaran pekerjaan.

Disability takes a backseat for wheelchair-bound Mariappan

Paralympian P. Mariappan is a legend in the sport of powerlifting. He has competed in the Paralympics a record seven times and holds the distinction of being Malaysia’s first medal winner when he won a bronze in Seoul in 1988. He went on to repeat the feat in Barcelona (1992). Mariappan, who was afflicted with polio when he was three, never let his disability stop him from becoming a successful powerlifter.
