A web of support from job coaches

Job Coaches will often prepare a pictorial album for Persons With Disability (PWD) as part of their work training programmes. They will also guide the disabled on which public transport to take and where to alight. These are among the tasks of a Job Coach programme which was launched in 2012 by the Social Welfare Department for PWD.

A group of parents and two teachers from the Special Education Class in Langkawi had a meeting and decided to form a non-governmental organisation called Networking Action For Disabled Youths (Nady). Nady’s main objective is to empower youths with special needs, aged 17 years and above, by unleashing their hidden talent in making handicrafts and help them market the products.

Man with visual impairment proves disability no hindrance to ace in studies

Diagnosed with severe visual impairment when he was 11 years old, Pung Kay Suan’s world seemed to have darkened ahead of him. The 27-year-old man, however, did not let the handicap stop him from pursuing his dreams and leading a normal life. With hard work and support from his parents, Pung managed to complete his Master in Business Administration programme at the Sarawak campus of the Swinburne University of Technology here.
