The recent arrest of 22-year-old autistic man Ahmad Ziqri Morshidi, who allegedly molested a woman at a restaurant in Subang Jaya, has sparked intense debate. A majority of the public were on his side and said that Ahmad should not have been detained, what more handcuffed in remand clothing and barefoot. But some people felt sorry for the woman whose chest he allegedly touched, and felt there was more to be done to educate society on autism.

And it was only fitting that the 51-year-old chief clerk of the Bertam Hulu Secondary School in Melaka was named as the flag bearer for the Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, from Oct 6-13.

A “life-changing” app that can track disabled rail users in real-time will be rolled out nationwide in Britain. The app will update station staff on where a passenger is at any point, useful in the event of a delay, change of platform or missed train. Four rail companies are using an early version, with the full one to be available across Britain next autumn.

Ban can be a last straw for the disabled, say groups

In light of the plastic straw ban in the Federal Territories next year, advocates representing persons with disabilities (PWDs) have urged eateries to provide alternative drinking straws to those with limited physical movements. “Straws are needed by those with neurological problems or have limited physical movement such as tetraplegics or quadriplegics,” said founder and chairman of the non-governmental organisation OKU Sentral Ras Adiba Radzi.
