Reviewing the disability sign

In Malaysia, we still have a long way to go from looking at the child’s disability to looking at him or her personally and his or her abilities. In this respect, we are behind much of the developed and developing world. Re-symbolising our nation is one step in the right direction. I appeal to media outlets, corporate bodies, shopping complexes, government agencies and all relevant bodies to consider adopting this new symbol when we need to use a disability sign.

Uniting special needs people through bocce

A bocce tournament brought together 70 intellectually disabled people from different community centres in Malaysia. Individual Mentally Challenged Training Centre for Special Needs (IMC) founder Raaginee Shalesh said the tournament was the result of a year’s training, and a platform to identify students’ level of skill in bocce to participate in the upcoming Special Olympics.
