The World Health Organisation (WHO) has found that one child in 160 has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Of those who were diagnosed, around 50% also have an intellectual disability.
I feel sad when I see parking bays for disabled people, or OKU (orang kurang upaya) in Malaysian terminology, being taken up by non-disabled drivers whose vehicles do not have the OKU stickers issued by the local municipal council.

Persons with disabilities will be given priority to vote if they have their disabled person’s card with them. Election Academy deputy director (Academic) Norlinah Jamman said this was part of the Election Commission’s (EC) efforts to ensure a smooth voting process.
Instead of using a wheelchair a 15-year-old special education student has opted for a skateboard because it gives him more freedom. Luke Murvelle of SMK Tansau said it was easier to move around with a skateboard as he did not have to depend on others.
