The world’s youngest country is subjected to brutal civil war that resulted in a rise of violence that puts those who are disabled in a dangerous place and eliminates their chances at receiving education. Advocating change has been difficult but it is definitely being implemented. Benson Murabak is one of the few disabled people who are a part of this movement towards a better and safer society.

I REFER to the letter “Lower salary for worker with disability” (The Star, March 13). The writer is indeed right in requesting that he/she should be paid the same salary as the employee who does the same kind of work but is not suffering from a disability. Once an employer has made the decision to employ a candidate for a vacancy that exists in the company, the new employee is entitled to the full salary allotted for the position.

Police have arrested two 18-year-olds for allegedly bullying a mentally disabled man at a community centre here. The 20-year-old victim was at the playground in Taman Sri Kluang when the teenagers approached him and one of them used a tree branch to intimidate the victim.
