TOM:Alberta, a subsidiary of Kadima Dynamics, just concluded their third annual makeathon event. Local engineers and designers worked with people living with disabilities to create open-source solutions for everyday challenges.

THE National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program’s ICanConnect is providing free technology to people with hearing and vision loss so they can reconnect to the world.

Eleven years ago S. Jeyaraj’s life changed completely. From an able-bodied person, he became wheelchair-bound. This was after an eight-tonne metal object fell onto him while he was working on a heavy-duty vehicle.

It takes courage for any ordinary person to achieve success when he lacks something, but for a person with a disability? Meet Kenneth D’Cruz, a 29-year-old audio engineer has worked tirelessly to set up his own audio production company.

Inconsiderate motorists in Klang are hogging designated parking bays for the disabled, despite action taken by the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) enforcement team. MPK statistics reveal that an average of 15 cars a day are towed away for parking in disabled bays, with the offenders also issued summonses for RM400.

However, councillor Allan Tan, who is disabled, said many of the offenders just could not be bothered.

The Brooklyn based inclusive-design organization launched in 2014, initially as a public service project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the three years since, the group has developed around 60 unique garments for people with disabilities ranging from spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, and Lou Gehrig’s disease as well as “invisible” disabilities like autism.

Meet Tjili, a 16 year old artist with exhibited work at the Royal Watercolour Society. She has cerebral palsy & is profoundly deaf.
