For People With Disabilities (PWD), especially those dependent on others for financial help, employment is an important way to gain economic independence. Opportunities for work can be found in various sectors such as the Government, private businesses, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) or self-employment.
In the past, PWD were only able to work in low-paid jobs such as ‘telephone operator’ or ‘basket-weaver’. Now, they are increasingly being employed in corporate organisations to perform highly-skilled jobs such as web administration, accounting, consultancy, and many more.
The advancement of information, communication and computer technology has brought with it the invention of the internet. This has provided greater accessibility to education, sharing of information and social communication for people living with disabilities.
