PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has questioned why the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) does not help those who are single and disabled.

“Not everyone is married. Many are bachelors, many are living in poverty and difficulty.

“Many do not have a steady job. There are those who are disabled. Do they not need assistance?” he said in his Facebook post on Thursday (Feb 7).

He said that under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration, “it is no the longer the same as before”.

“Open your eyes, see how the rakyat lives. Do not stay comfortable day by day in Putrajaya,” he said, in reference to the current administration.

His Facebook post has received over 10,000 likes and has been shared more than 500 times.

Najib included a screencap of the criteria of those who are not eligible for the first phase of the BSH 2019, which includes those who are married to foreigners and single people.

BSH, which was formerly known as 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) was introduced by the current administration to replace the scheme introduced by the Barisan Nasional-led government in 2012.

Under BR1M, those with a monthly household income of RM3,000 and below received RM1,200 under the scheme, while those earning between RM3,000 and RM4,000 received RM900.

Single individuals earning RM2,000 and below received RM450.
