Bowling fans can join in on the action at the inaugural World Para Bowling Series held at the Temasek Club next week - but only if they do it blindfolded or seated down.

From Feb 27 to March 1, there will be free lanes at the 38-lane bowling centre for the public to try blindfolded and seated bowling in a bid to raise awareness about para bowling and attract more persons with disability to pick up the sport.

Known as FunBowl, this initiative is part of the Singapore edition of the three-leg tour series from Feb 25 to March 2. Hong Kong (March 27-31) and Kuching, Malaysia (July 31-Aug 5) will host the other legs.

Blindfolded participants at a two-hour FunBowl session will have to use a guide rail to assist in the release of the ball.

They can also try their hand at bowling from a wheelchair.

"These tryouts are crafted to promote a better understanding of how bowling can be adapted for different functionalities and be a form of fun for the whole community," the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) said yesterday.

National bowler and former world champion Shayna Ng will be participating in the first session on Feb 27 to kickstart the event.

There will be two sessions on Feb 27 and 28 (12pm and 4pm) and one session (12pm) on March 1.

Participants can walk in during the following slots or book a time with SDSC.
