MALAYSIA AT THE 2016 PARALYMPICS
The 2016 Summer Paralympics was held from 7 – 18 September 2016. Malaysia fielded 21 competitors in 9 sports and our Paralympians delivered their best performance yet, scoring Malaysia’s first Paralympic gold medal.

Mohamad Ridzuan made his debut in 2011, going on to win titles at the Asian Para Games (2014) and World Para Athletics Championships/IPC Athletics World Championships (2015).
Muhammad Ziyad previously won bronze in the 2012 Paralympics, as well as titles in the 2013 World Para Athletics Championships and 2014 Asian Para Games. He was crowned National Paralympian Sportsman of the Year at the Malaysian Sports Awards 2017 for his achievements. Ziyad is the current world record holder with a throw of 17.29 m – a distance he set in 2017, breaking the record he previously set during the 2016 Paralympics.
11 September 2016 goes down in history as the day Abdul Latif broke his own long jump record three times in the same day, going on to clinch another gold for Malaysia. He was also selected to be Malaysia’s flag bearer during the Paralympics opening ceremony.
Siti Noor Radiah is the first female Malaysian competitor to win a medal in athletics. She was previously named Female Paralympian of the Year at the Malaysian Sports Awards 2016.
