The Social Security Organisation (Socso) will relax several conditions involving the Wage Subsidy Programme. The programme was extended under the the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday.

Among progressive measures in the plan include monetary incentives of RM800 per month for up to 6 months for companies hiring jobless individuals up to 40 years of age who would additionally benefit from comprehensive reskilling and up-skilling programmes.

The last three months have been very trying for visually disabled waiter Marcos Joel. “Since our restaurant is not operational, there is no salary but just an allowance of RM600 monthly which my employer says will be paid to us until November this year, ’’ said Marcos, who has a degree in broadcasting and journalism.

More than 300,000 disabled persons and single mothers will receive a one-off financial assistance worth RM300 to lighten their burden, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

The government has agreed to exempt the disabled placed under mandatory quarantine, from paying hotel accommodation charges. Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was decided at the daily ministerial meeting with the National Security Council today.
